Many football fans will be chuckling (or fuming) today after the treatment ITV gave to its coverage of the FA Cup 4th Round replay last night. The broadcaster interrupted the final few minutes of extra time to run an ad break, purposefully or not, and subsequently failed to screen the only goal of the Merseyside derby, cutting back to the game for viewers to see Everton players celebrating.
The actual ad’s themselves were cut, I can’t imagine the transition from Action For Children’s “as long as it takes” ad, which cuts on the line “I used to lash out if someone pushed my buttons…” into the VW Golf advert which has received numerous complaints for excessive violence, will have pleased the well respected charity. The amount of clangers within the 1 minute video does make for fantastic viewing…unless you’re a Red, hardly the message you were expecting from Volkswagen!
UPDATE: As a clever follow up, Tic Tac, who were the first advert broadcast during the interuption to the match, have made this little viral to give all those that missed the goal a “little lift”. The oppertunity was there to be acted on and it seems Tic Tac have moved fast and made the most of the debacle.
OMG! That Action For Children Ad Campaign is cursed!
